Apples

It has been AGES since I have painted. And I miss it. So this week I made sure to make time to watercolor and relax! Painting always reminds me of my grandmother who used to send me flowers doodled on notes in the mail.

Revisting Watercolor

So, this week I water-colored my husband a picture of the tardis for his birthday!

Happy Birthday, my lovely husband!

We celebrated my husbands wonderful day by buying him the new Final Fantasy: Lightening Returns and eating yummy brownies.

My House: A Tour

Since Rachel posed about her Anti-Pinterest house I thought I would show pictures of my home today.

My home is an A frame. My husband bought it about 5 years ago, ages before he met me. I love it! This picture was taken standing from our loft room, where my sewing space and closet are located.

I water-colored those pictures for our home
I've decorated a bit since I moved in. Mr. Adventure works 50-60 hours a week and has not had time to add personal touches to our abode. Since he lived alone I don't think he spent too much time worrying about where to put tea cups and pops of color and that sort of thing.

where we sit when we want to snuggle
I used to really worry about my house and browse pinterest and feel like a wife failure, but not anymore. I adore my home and think it is perfect just the way it is! I don't need to spend 2000+ dollars on decor that will just sit there. Instead I desire to be frugal with my home. I want to decorate not to show off my house but to show my own (and my husbands) personality and, of course, to create a comfortable environment. I don't need a shopping spree at Ikea to accomplish this. Take, for example, that lovely green blanket on my couch. It's handmade, and I got it from goodwill for about 2.50. It's one of my favorite things in my house.

this is where I spend most of my time. See the large pile of random
knitting/sewing/papery things? Yup.
this is my husband's nook. He puts his socks on here in the morning :)
God has taught me to be patient with my home and not to stress over how it looks. It's a house, and has useful purposes: it's only temporary and could be taken away at any time.

I love my big kitchen!
But I think you (dear reader) will find my bedroom story slightly funny.

down the hallway to the bedroom....
Okay, so here is the tale of our bedroom. Our house is freezing in winter. I mean, like it won't heat up to more then 58 degrees. Its so drafty. Well, my husband was tired of the cold (and if he is cold, then I'm an ice-sickle) and decided to build a box around his bed (this was several years before he met me) Then he put one of those little walmart heaters inside the box and covered the sides with two blankets and mounted a flat screen TV in there (did you notice we don't have a TV in our living room? Yup. Its in our bedroom.)

now that I think about it, those cords look like a fire hazard waiting
to happen
this is what's inside :)
And yes, I really do sleep in there. Hah.

Watercolor

I signed up for my first watercolor class today! It starts next week and I am super super excited!

I've been practicing at home a bit. Here is my most recent attempt :)
I love trees. And mixing colors.
Whats your favorite thing to draw/paint?

Rainbows

Just another watercolor I completed at work :) What do you think? My first try at this sort of abstract art.

Little Dots

An art piece I did at work.
Currently it is hanging on my wall.
How is the summer progressing in your town?

Sunset Watercolor

I painted and drew this lovely tree while at work.
I love trees.
Is there an item in nature you find yourself trying to relate with?

Doodles and Paint

Some new art that I've done while at work. Three watercolors and a prismacolor pencil drawing!
Does anyone else draw or paint when they are bored?

Lighthouse

I did this short watercolor at work the other day. I really think (aside from sewing) that I have one of the most amazing jobs in the world.
I never realized how much I've missed painting.
Does anyone else watercolor? I taught myself with a tiny palette of dry colors and about three brushes. I'm still learning--but I am amazed by how wonderfully forgiving and blend-able watercolors are. If you have never tried them, you should; you just might surprise yourself. I love them.

Watercolor fun

I went to my local barns and nobles and spent the day sipping coffee and watercoloring! Here are the pieces I worked on.
I really want to get better! =) I think my favorite one is the tree...

Tree

Painted this tree in a coffee shop....

I love wasting time in coffee shops...

(and yes, I know it's not "finished" but its staying like this...) =P

Fairy Watercolor

So, since I'm home with family for christmas and can't sew I decided to do some watercolors. This one is of a fairy and it turned out great! Of  course I used a photo reference but mine really does look completely different.

Time: 2.5 hrs

Happy Christmas Eve!

Cuff/Cup Cozy and Watercolor

Well, I tried to make a cup cozy. But I made it larger then it should be, and then tried to turn it into a cuff. I wonder what it shall become in the end?

I also made this watercolor for my sister, for christmas. She doesn't have the internet, so I'm not worried about her seeing it. I did use a reference for this, so I can't claim the idea as my own. But the person who drew what I saw charged to much, so I tried to draw/watercolor it myself. And added a train. And other stuff.

I want to make more cuffs and cup cozies...I keep making the pattern to big, or to wide. More experimenting! And yes, I have been neglecting my blog lately...

Watercolor

Some of my work =) Still learning!

I think I need to focus on simplicity. The first two I used a lot of colors--and I think I need to just try to learn one or two shades before moving onto more complex subjects.

I really want to get better.
