Hiking Adventures

Spontaneous adventures are such fun!
We went hiking on the blue ridge parkway last week. The weather is turning and the hike was quite peaceful and beautiful.
Here is B trying to climb a tree sidewise. He's all adventurous!
I got cold so B loaned me his nice comfy sweater :)
See, he got in the tree!
Finally there!!!
What actives do you do every fall? Hiking is one of my favorites!

Living without Internet

One of the things Brian and I discussed as we were making our marriage plans was the place the internet would play in our lives. It wasn't a long discussion, and we both decided not to purchase a wireless internet plan for our home.
What? You may think--Live without internet? Yes. We are going to live without an internet connection in our home.

Brian already has been living without internet for about a year, a choice he made because he works with computers all day and usually is in the office for 10+ hours. He just didn't use the internet at home, therefore he realized he could easily save 40 dollars a month by canceling that.

When we became engaged he asked me if I wanted/needed an internet connection in our home because of my etsy business. I thought about it, but decided not to have him purchase one. And here is why:

1) Because Brian and I do not have internet, we are able to spend a lot of quality time together NOT staring at a computer screen. That is not to say we don't watch movies, because we do (usually anime) But we do more outside things and talk more. I don't want to loose that!

2) I realize that I spend a lot less time "mindlessly browsing" the internet. In order to get online and update the blog I have to get dressed and go out to a coffee shop or internet cafe. No more hours in my PJs sitting in front of my laptop. Now I go out and meet people and get my business done quickly, and I get coffee to boot!
3) I get things done. Let me say it again. I get things done! Yes, really. I find more time for sewing and less time pinning things I want to sew. For someone who wants to eventually start her own full-time business sewing, this is invaluable!

What, you may ask, does this mean for the blog? Nothing much, expect I will have to plan posts better! Never fear, this blog is here to stay for awhile yet...

*Now, dear readers, both B and I have iphones with a small internet plan. We use this to check up on everyday things, but because of the limited data connection we don't spend a whole lot of time on them. They are mostly for emergencies.

What do you think? Could you live without internet?

Number Two

I am what I am not
but would be, best forgot
under the sky the stars the moon
I dance and you are

away like the
reaches of my
tired heart.

can you see me can you tell?
nothing was and never will.

in the skylight
all is found
in the evening,
in the ground.

come to me, come yes, away

and in the end,
just one
other day.

Just some thoughts--some ideas, like an unformed pocket left discarded in an old sewing room, never finished; half-darned, with a bit of embroidery thread lost betwixt the sheets.

Bamboo Cuff

I have two spools of the softest ocean blue bamboo yarn. I've been debating over what to make out of it for about two-three months. Finally I decided to make a pretty little cuff!
I think I'm going to make a tutorial when I make the other pair. Its really simple to knit. I knitted it flat then stitched it up.
I love how delicate and soft it is. If you have even felt bamboo fabric or yarn--you will know what I am talking about.
What have you guys been making this fall?

It has been a long while since I have posted any poetry or writing on my blog. So here is a little poem to brighten up your day.

You make me believe in magic
Oh I can see the whispers of the stars
Framed in your kiss
A mask of sunlight
A tepid, yawning breath
All colored in disorganized silence.

Oh, Thing of dreams
Awake in the disquiet
To paint apprehension across the skies
And shallows upon the eves.
Silver in gold
a idea that slumbers
sleeping in the storm
You are nothing

You are me.
Poems that spring from the lips like a meandering dream, like a melody that is not sung but written, with the nub of some lost pen...

What inspires you to write?

Little Pink Dress

This little pink dress reminded me of my dear friend Beth. I'm mailing it to her to see how she would style it!
I paired it with a little black vest and classic flats.
Believe it or not, this lovely garden is right in my back yard!
Beth, enjoy your surprise dress! :) Also, my lovely friend Gwen bought me those lace half gloves. I loooove them!

How would YOU style this? Comment to be included in the next Fashionista Giveaway!
