THINK poster

On the wall of our church is the following (handwritten) poster:

Every time I see this I stop and think.

Is it True? Is it Helpful? Is it Inspiring? Is it Necessary? Is it Kind?

What wise words!! I wanted one for my own home, so I designed one to print off and display. And I thought to share here in case anyone wants these words of wisdom for their home and their littles. Right click and save and print one for yourself too! I made this with Canva, I am no designer! Hah.

Charlotte Mason Preschool Printables

We are doing a low key Charlotte Mason preschool with Reuben this fall. I plan on making a whole post about our goals and the things we will be focusing on, but for right now I am just creating some printables to use as I plan our weeks. You can download them by right clicking and saving to your computer or download the high resolution PDFs (mint green lesson plan here and leafy plan here).

Please feel free to donate $1 to me if you love it and want to see more!

Why I get my Patterns Tested

When I knit or crochet my own design I always make sure to get my pattern tested. Right now I use the Ravelry Testing Pool, an online forum where you can find knitters and crocheters to test patterns. The perk they get? A free pattern. The perk you get? Feedback!

I'm human, and I do make mistakes, and this is why I always try to get my patterns tested. When I don't, I always regret it and end up finding a stupid error.

See the video for more reasons and for tips on pattern testing. Good luck!

Programs & Materials for Pattern Design

I've been designing knitting and crochet patterns for awhile now. I don't profess to be an expert, but I have learned a bit over the years. I shared how I write my crochet patterns and how I design my crochet patterns, and now I am sharing the programs and materials I use throughout this process.

Right now it breaks down to me using Excel for colorwork design and Adobe Indesign for my PDF patterns. I go into why and how in the video, so check it out below if you want more information, as well as cheaper alternatives for those just starting out. Happy designing!

Body Image

I made these signs to hang in my church bathroom. What do you think?

I'm not a designer by any means, but I hope these simple prints bring a smile to my friends and fellow church members! (Also, which of the top two do you like best? I couldn't decide)

Blog Critique

Hello Friends! I updated my blog layout! I'm super happy with it! As I was working on it, I came up with a great idea! We should critique each others blogs!

So, today I am hosting what I hope will be a monthly rendition of a BLOG Critique!
Here is how it works:

Simply leave a comment with your blog address in this post. I will visit your blog and write up a detailed critique highlighting the things I think you are doing AMAZING on and then a few things you should improve upon.

I will then e-mail this directly to you!

If you have any suggestions about MY blog, please don't hesitate to e-mail me! I'm terrible at spelling (-_-) *sigh* and grammar....I'm sure I probably did something wrong even in this post!

I am super excited about this new series!

How to: Tri-Fold Brochure

For my upcoming nuptials I made my own Tri-Fold Brochure using Indesign. If you want to know how, here is a step by step tutorial.
1) Fold a blank piece of letter-size paper in three. Use this mockup to map out which panel of the brochure each piece of information needs to be placed on. When you unfold the paper, you'll see that the front panel of the brochure must be on the far right panel of the first page in order to be in the correct place when folded. The back panel of the brochure is the middle panel of the first page. The left-hand panel of the first page is the second panel seen when the front flap is opened. The other side of the paper represents what the brochure looks like when fully opened; the panels are already in the proper order on this side.

2) Open InDesign. Create a blank 8 1/2-by-11-inch horizontal document by going to the File menu, then selecting "New" and "Document," or by pressing "Ctrl-N" on your keyboard. Change the number of pages to two, the page size to Letter, the orientation to Landscape and the margins to 1/4 inch each. Set the number of columns to 3 and the gutter to 1/2 inch. Click "OK."

3) Click on the text icon to create text. You drag a box and then you can type in it. You can just drag and drop a picture into the file to place it, and then resize.

I just used text and pictures and I printed in black and white to save more money. I hope this is helpful if you are planning any sort of event you need need a brochure for!

I designed and printed my engagement announcements from Shutterfly.
We are having an engagement party November 3rd at Brian's house! In the next few weeks you can expect to hear about my wedding hair, my dress, and my plans. Any suggestions for wedding planning you have will be much appreciated!

I am so excited.

Odd Jobs

So, I've been "jobless" for about a month now.

Strangely I've never felt less stressed about money.

I've been doing odd jobs here and there, and selling off a few many of the things I own but never use.

Also, my little shop has picked up business, and I've been sewing like crazy! I can't wait to show you some of the new things I have made. I've really improved on sewing, and have been making less and less mistakes in thread, composition and spacing.

But I did get hired to create a web site for a new bridal shop that is opening in lynchburg. The "Bridal and Formal Warehouse" opens next week, and is offering gently used special occasion dressware, shoes, veils, and other accessories at affordable prices.

Check it out! (all my work!)

The Bridal and Formal Warehouse

This is my first try at creating a webspace other then my own--so if it is terrible, please let me know! I took many of the pictures but a few are stock pictures from deviant art used with permission.
