Expectations based on gender exist--but when you bring things down to the individual person, you aren't guaranteed anything, because individuals are infinitely different. Perhaps it sounds stereotypical that Angel's a very good mechanic and I'm an excellent chef...but that doesn't make it any less true. And roles change from season to season of marriage. This new season for us is the first time we've both had jobs that earned equal income. This is the first time that I've been the main person to talk to all the strangers we meet on a daily basis and arrange all plans and transactions because I'm the one who speaks more fluently than he does. We definitely have different roles in our lifestyle now but they work just as well because we still each play to our strengths.Rachel Ghttp://www.therandomwritings.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7545545571343273883.post-17713044871992794742014-09-14T18:45:28.647-04:002014-09-14T18:45:28.647-04:00I think that is a wonderful lesson to learn! Even ...I think that is a wonderful lesson to learn! Even if you're me and you minored in WGS in college, you read feminist stuff all the time, and you're totally aware of gender issues, it's really hard to escape internalized sexism. Even knowing that logically all this stuff, it's hard to accept emotionally. Luckily Dan doesn't mind me talking all of this out with him, and he's very patient with giving my emotions time to catch up with my logic.Brita Longhttp://bellebrita.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7545545571343273883.post-19775469252656198082014-09-12T20:05:05.697-04:002014-09-12T20:05:05.697-04:00I totally get this. It took me awhile but I found out that men really do care how we feel (at least the kind ones do). My partner also thought that women were mean and naggy but he found out that most are not. It was just told that way. I think the most I have learn it communication.Cody Dollhttp://catchingcodyk.blogspot.com/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7545545571343273883.post-32794071846588205382014-09-12T16:56:20.384-04:002014-09-12T16:56:20.384-04:00Great truth! I don't read a lot of marriage books or blogs because I feel like the advice they give is so universal to some sort of idea of "men." What I have realized, like you, is that I need to focus on how my marriage works with Aaron, not some box I think he should fit into as a "man."bgarpkenoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7545545571343273883.post-44771481851829492102014-09-12T08:44:42.451-04:002014-09-12T08:44:42.451-04:00well, glad that comment made you think. :)well, glad that comment made you think. :)sabrina petershttp://www.sabrinapeters.netnoreply@blogger.com
